Despite Personal Loss, Parents Preach Hope in Battle with Addiction

The loss of a loved one is something that none of us would like to imagine. Just the mere thought of it can break our hearts. But things like this can sometimes be inevitable and all that’s left for us to do is to bear with the pain and move on with our lives. This often happens when a person gets involved with drugs. The effects can be beyond our imagination- sometimes leading to death. The article below is about the loss of parents. Despite this, they were able to move on and even serve as an inspiration to others by preaching with the hopes of putting an end to drug addiction. With this and the help from drug addiction treatment centers, the fight will be successful. Click here to read the article. Jeff and Edie Clarkson likely will spend the rest of their lives mourning a loss, but they will not accept defeat to drug addiction. The Jacksonville couple is dealing with the recent loss of their son Parker, who died of a drug overdose Feb. 20 in St. Augustine. But they’re using the personal tragedy as a springboard to action for others facing the ravages of addiction. The Clarksons were in town Friday to present a check to the Augustine Recovery Center, where Parker resided at two periods in his life while trying to get clean. The family raised more than $11,000 by asking friends and family to donate in Parker’s memory rather than providing flowers at the funeral service. While those from the outside might say that rehab failed Parker, the Clarksons say that’s not the case. They say he was given all the tools to succeed at Augustine Recovery Center but simply couldn’t shake loose from the grip of addiction. “We feel like Parker got an extra year of life because (of the recovery center),” Jeff Clarkson said. “The last seven months we had with him were great. “It’s a wicked, wicked disease.” Not people who seek attention, the Clarksons said they were willing to share their story with others because they hope other families can learn from them.
